The Watson Family photographed by Lauren Gregory

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: LAUREN GREGORY

South Carolina portrait photographer, Lauren Gregory, shares her story behind the shot from this classic and timeless family portrait.

The Watson Family photographed by South Carolina portrait photographer, Lauren Gregory.

For this family I wanted to create a unique portrait, with soft directional light, and where each person is holding their own space. I sketched out their poses before the shoot (I always have a couple of options prepared when children are involved). I used a tripod to make creating a composite a breeze if necessary.

A base layer of light was created with an AlienBees™ B800 Flash Unit and
60” Foldable Octabox just above camera. My key light is an AlienBees™ B800 Flash Unit and a 47” Foldable Octabox camera right and feathered away from my subjects for a softer look.
